STATEMENT: CA-48 Ready to Turn the Page After Issa’s Failed Record

Palm Springs economist and Democratic candidate has plan to rebuild the middle class and deliver real opportunity for working families

Palm Springs, CA – Following news of Congressman Darrell Issa’s expected retirement in the competitive 48th Congressional District in California, Brandon Riker’s campaign released the following statement:

Voters have a real choice. They can stick with more of the same failed Trump-Issa economic model that left working families behind, or elect the only candidate with a bold plan to deliver real results for this district.

“Our campaign is gaining momentum because voters know that I will always put working families first,” Brandon Riker said. “Regardless of who’s on the ballot with an R next to their name or whoever comes out of this last-ditch Republican reshuffle, voters in CA-48 deserve real leadership. I am ready to go to Congress to deliver major change so families can afford to live and thrive in California again.”

A trained economist, small business owner, and resident of Palm Springs, Riker knows what it takes to fix the economy from the ground up and deliver real opportunity for the residents of California’s 48th Congressional District, and he is the only candidate who has never accepted corporate PAC money.

Riker is calling for a second New Deal, a sweeping plan to rebuild the middle class. “We need higher wages, major investment in American industry and infrastructure, and an economy that rewards work, not just wealth,” Riker said. “Californians also need leaders who only answer to the people, not big corporations.”

Riker is the candidate in the race with the vision and ability to win this seat, with over $1.8m raised, over $1m cash-on-hand, and 650+ active grassroots volunteers. “This is about results. I don’t just have ideas. I know what it takes to turn our economy around and bring real opportunity back to this district. I can deliver the economic renewal our community deserves and ensure that no one in this district is overlooked. Voters don’t need promises. They need action, leadership, and a plan that works. I am the candidate who can make that happen.”

Riker has also held numerous town halls across California’s 48th Congressional District, highlighting the importance of hearing from Californians about what they need to get ahead. “This is our moment to reject the past and embrace a future that works for working families,” Riker said. “I am ready to lead that fight and win this race.”
